So this summer, Dave and I, along with my little brother (Ryan) and sister (Elissa), and two of my little brother's friends (James and Richard) hiked "The Subway" in Zion National Park. When we got to one of the swims, about halfway through the hike, Dave lost his sunglasses into the abyss of the deep hole. Well, it just so happens that my brother, sister, and both friends are swimmers and lifeguards. They all decided to dive into the hole to try and recover Dave's sunglasses. Only one (James) had any success at this, but his success was great (just not with Dave's glasses exactly). In his first couple of dives, he came up with a pair of Oakley sunglasses (not Dave's). This find made it clear that Dave was not the only one to lose sunglasses in that particular hole. He kept diving, searching blindly in the dark, freezing cold water. At some point, he dived and stayed down for quite some time. Just as we were starting to worry, he popped out of the water exclaiming, "Free rope!". He tossed out of the water, a huge, neatly wrapped, yellow climbing rope that someone else had obviously lost to the abyss. It was pretty hilarious. He continued diving, and in the end he also came up with a very stinky sweatshirt (that we promptly returned to its resting place) and another pair of sunglasses. Unfortunately, Dave's sunglasses were lost, perhaps until some other vigilant diver enters the hole!

That is a pretty good story. But at least Dave had some other glasses to choose from? :)
